Beauty and the Beast Mirrors

One of the fairy tales we've been reading over and over (various versions) is Beauty and The Beast. Since it's become a favorite, I thought it would be fun to do a couple corresponding crafts.

magic mirrors

supplies: pipe cleaners, sliver paint, jewels, foam brush, glue,
aluminum foil & cardboard cut to a mirror shape
*i used two cereal boxes glued together for the cardboard mirror

1 - cover cardboard mirror with "thin" layer
of glue

2 - place aluminum foil on top of glue and
press till smooth

3 - paint back side of mirror silver

4 - twist pipe cleaners (2 at a time) together,
we used about 7 sets

5 - draw pictures on mirror
*
big buddy drew all the green lanterns (he's one
of them), so he'd know if they needed his help

6 - shape twisted pipe cleaners around face
of mirror and wrap them around the handle
*i did this part on mini man's mirror and i also ended
up stapling the pipe cleaners around the mirror

face - the pipe cleaners not only add some sparkle
to the mirrors, but also make them a lot sturdier

7 - glue jewels to painted side of mirror

front of finished mirrors

back of finished mirrors

The boys have had a blast incorporating these into their pretend play and I'm enjoying listening to what they "see" in their mirrors. Some of their favorite things to "see" are Daddy at work, Maca's heros, and my personal favorite - me giving them gum. When did they get so clever and sneaky?

  1. What are some of the titles/authors for your books. We've found tons of Cinderella variants, but not so many other fairy tale variants.

    Thanks!
