Fourth of July Cobbler

The kiddos and I used a lot of the strawberries we picked to make cobbler. We aren't really pie people and there are a few of us who don't like cake - they claim it is to rich?! - but we are all huge fans of this cobbler. It's a little crazy how many pans we've gone through in the last couple of weeks. Since the fourth is so close I decided to make some with blueberries and strawberries and it was an even  bigger hit.  This recipe is pretty simple, I usually have all the ingredients on hand except for the berries. It's also quite forgiving, which is great for us because it means I can let the kids help without worrying about things being exactly precise.  Ingredients - 3 cups diced strawberries 2 cups blueberries 3/4  cup sugar 2 cups flour  (I'd recommend sticking with all-purpose, I tried wheat and the texture wasn't great) 4 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla extract  2 cups milk 2 sticks mel

Strawberries at Cody's Farm

Last week the kids and I picked strawberries at  Cody's Farm & Orchard in Marengo. It's a small simple place but very well thought out. The supplies were orderly and the bathrooms were very clean, they even had a changing table set up for babies.

Color Vibe

For the last couple of years Mini Man has been begging for me and him to run a race together. The goal was to do it last summer but BabyZ  put a wrench in things.  This summer I was determined to cross it off our to do list. We signed up and ran the  Color Vibe in Rockford last month. It's was the perfect first race for kids...it's only a 5K, the entry fee was cheap ($25 and kids under 12 run free), and it's a very laid back event. I had plans for Mini Man and I to train but we never got around to it. I have yet to figure out how to work a fitness routine back in to my schedule after having BabyZ. Mini Man is a born runner though and I was getting nervous because for the first mile he kept asking me, "mommy can we go speed now!?" I was struggling to keep up with him so I was thrilled when he finally slowed down. We had to walk once but for no training I was pretty pleased...after walking for a bit Mini Man was ready to sprint again.
