This past week started off strong. Monday we were super productive and made a couple batches of spaghetti sauce and tomato soup.
Then Tuesday we had a couple little friends over in the morning and then decided to seize the day and head to Loyola Beach/Park. Jer and I had attended Shakespeare In The Parks at Loyola Park earlier in the month and I knew it was a place I'd have to bring the kids. If you live in Chicagoland, this is by far the most family friendly beach we've found - not crowded, close/cheap parking, and a playground with shade just on the other side of the boardwalk.
since parking was so cheap ($1 an hour!) we splurged on some popsicles. mini man of course choose spiderman |
standing in water is the ideal place to enjoy a popsicle |
It was a great day but then, that night, our week took a drastic turn for the worse. Mini Man and Little Lady came down with the flu/croup. Big Buddy also developed a horrible cough and a minor ear infection. We spent the rest of the week watching Netflix and eating soup and jello during the day and hanging out in a steamy bathroom at night.
I know I've said it before, but as much as I hate it when my kids are sick there is also a sweetness about that time. It's an amazing privilege to be a mom; to see your babies comforted by just your voice and touch.
Thankfully by Saturday everyone was feeling well enough to celebrate Mini Man turning four.
our gift to mini was an air rocket set. it's one toy i'd highly recommended - at less then $20, they are a terrific bargain and a ton of fun. |
big buddy got mini man a giant stuffed snake to go with the one we brought him from nyc. |
Hopefully, we will all be able to recuperate this week.
*Warning: gross story ahead*
I tried to get back into the swing of things today by doing a couple loads of laundry and scrubbing down the bathroom. About an hour after I finished the bathroom, one of the kids had a bad case of loose stools. They didn't quite make it to the toilet, and I don't know what I was thinking (maybe I wanted to protect the freshly cleaned floors) but I reached out catch it - yeah, poop through the fingers, not a great feeling. Netflix was turned back on and I preceded to hide under my blankets for a bit...it can only go up from here, right?
So cute! Glad you're all feeling better.
