Beauty and the Beast Mirrors

One of the fairy tales we've been reading over and over (various versions) is Beauty and The Beast . Since it's become a favorite, I thought it would be fun to do a couple corresponding crafts.  magic mirrors supplies: pipe cleaners, sliver paint, jewels, foam brush, glue, aluminum foil & cardboard cut to a mirror shape *i used two cereal boxes glued together for the cardboard mirror 1 - cover cardboard mirror with "thin" layer of glue 2 - place  aluminum foil on top of glue and press till smooth 3 - paint back side of mirror silver 4 - twist pipe cleaners (2 at a time) together, we used about 7 sets 5 - draw pictures on  mirror * big buddy drew all the  green  lanterns  (he's one    of them), so he'd know if they needed his help 6 - shape twisted pipe cleaners around face  of mirror  and wrap them around the handle *i did this part on mini man's mirror and i also ended up stapling...

A Sweet Valentine's Day

Yesterday was a fun day!  The night before Husbandie and I cut out hearts, wrote down some of our favorite things about our kids, and then hid them around the house.  The boys noticed right away and were super excited to find them all.  After finding them, we lined them all up on a blank wall and the kids asked me to read them several times through out the day...I'll probably be reading them a lot over the next week or so. :)  We did not do too much school work but Big Buddy did practice writing his name on lots of Valentines - it was hard work because the space was much smaller than he's used to. Once all our Valentines were addressed we taped them to some heart shaped lollipops we had made over the weekend and then tried to be very sneaky as we delivered them to our neighbors and friends.  We did however get caught - they might have had a tip :) - at Maca and Papa's house, where they invited us in for heart-shaped donut...

Two Kinds of Hearts

Tuesday the boys spent all day in their pajamas (I had to get dressed in the afternoon to run errands - sad) and we made hearts.  First we made paint chip hearts... big buddies heart supplies needed: paint chips, scissors, contact paper cut in to the shape of a heart This project was great for practicing scissor skills. Mini Man is still pretty new to scissors but all on his own he came up with a method that I thought was pretty brilliant.  He'd make lots of little cuts... And then tear the rest.  Once the the strips were all cut/torn, I removed the back of the contact paper and boys placed the paint chips at random.  I emphasized to them that they should put the colors face down, Mini Man thought it was very funny to pretend he was going to do the opposite.  my jokester mini man's heart The other hearts we made were actually valentines to our squirrel friends and was inspired by this post on Poppytalk .  To...
