Earlier this month we had a little birthday celebration for Little Lady. We invited 8 of her favorite friends and their dolls. It was a really sweet time.
If you've read about any of my other parties you know that I almost always experience some sort of mishap...the Lord is still rooting that desire for perfection and the pride that comes with it out of my heart. This time, about five minute before the guests arrived, the wind blew our chalkboard off the porch and it broke in to about dozen pieces. It was fine - it's always fine! Nobody comes to our parties to be wowed by my skills but because they love us and want to celebrate with our us.
Because Little Lady's birthday is so close to Valentines Day we ran with the red, pink, and heart theme. We did this for her 3rd birthday too and it's nice to be able to leave all the decoration up for bit.
This year Little Lady wanted to have a fancy tea with her friends She was also quite opinionated on the food. In addition to tea and hot chocolate we served scones, cookies, chocolate covered pretzels, popcorn, and fruit. We were happy to indulge her wishes but we also insisted that she help with the prep. She did a great job! Her and Mini Man spent most of the day before baking and decorating.
For a craft we picked up some heart boxes at Target's $ spot, drilled holes in the top, and had the girls make designs on them using embroidery thread. The boxes, the easel place cards, and few other $ spot treats served as the guests' party favors.
Little Lady helped me come up with a few party games. The favorite was probably freeze dance with a bit of twist - when the music stopped the girls had to find a heart to stand on and on the back of the heart was a task they had to do: say your favorite verse, spin around 6 times, etc. The girls also spent a large part of the party having undirected fun in our playroom...Jer and enjoyed spying on them from the stairs.
I'm so proud to be Little Lady's mom. She is thoughtful, determined, and kind. She is loyal and loves intensely. I'm also thankful for her many wonderful friends. It's exciting to think about how their friendship will continue to grow and that hopefully, they will spur each on as the become women of integrity.
